July 18th, 2010 – According to Saham News, yesterday, July 17th, Mehdi Karroubi visited the house of Mansour Osanloo, imprisoned labor activist and meeting with all his family members. Mansour Osanloo’s mother warmly welcomed Karroubi to the Osanloo home and thanked him for continuing to take the side of justice and for standing with the people of Iran.

During Karroubi’s visit, Osanloo’s mother talked to him about the recent attack on Onsanloo’s daughter-in-law Zoya Samadi and the pressure and pain inflicted upon her. Mrs. Osanloo expressed deep regret regarding the manner in which security forces had accosted Zoya Samadi and said: “They [security forces] unfortunately abducted Zoya on June 23rd, 2010 and took her to an undisclosed location where she was severely beaten by a number of security agents. The relentless beatings led to bruises on many parts of her body. After they were done, late at night, she was thrown out of a car and left under the Sanandaj bridge.” Mrs. Osanloo added: “The severity of the beatings she endured caused her to have a miscarriage.”

Upon hearing of the heart breaking account of Zoya Samadi’s ordeal, Mehdi Karroubi expressed deep regret and sorrow regarding this unjust incident and hoped for the prompt return of Mr. Osanloo to his family’s arms. While recalling his own struggle during the Shah’s era Karroubi said: “At that time, when we first started our resistance and joined the Imam’s movement, our revolution was built upon the foundation that no one should be oppressed or treated unfairly and unjustly. The barbaric manner in which individuals and their families are currently being treated by this regime, the injustice our nation has had to endure, did not even exist during the Shah’s corrupt regime. As a member of this system of governance [regime], I stand before your family ashamed and embarrassed. However, this type of behavior is neither Islamic nor would it be tolerated by the Imam.”

Mr. Karroubi expressed hope that many political prisoners would return to their loved ones on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan.

In conclusion while expressing his condolences to the people of Sistan and Baluchistan, Karroubi said: “The fact that such events occur in our country is disconcerting and shameful. I would like to express my sincere condolences to the people of this province. I am hopeful that those who were responsible for this event will be apprehended and brought to justice immediately.”

It is worth mentioning that Mansour Osanloo, a founding member and one of the leaders of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company and a leading trade union activist, has been arrested on numerous occasions because of his continued fight for labor rights and is currently detained at Evin prison where he is serving the last year of a 5 year prison sentence.
