Wednesday February 16th, 2011 - According to Saham News, in a letter addressed to Larijani, the head of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Fatameh Karroubi, Mehdi Karroubi's wife criticized both the behavior of the members of parliament yesterday* and the thugs that arrived outside her residence and proceeded to insult her family last night. Fatemeh Karroubi stated: "When mobs attacked our residence during the holy night of Ramadan, at the time, in a letter addressed to the Supreme Leader I asked whether his difference of opinion with my husband should interfere with our right to live and exist. Today however, I have accepted the fact that this regime no longer provides those who played a significant role in its formation and battled alongside it, with even the right to a simple existence."
The complete content of Mrs. Karroubi's letter is as follows:
In the name of Almighty God,
With greetings to the honorable Head of the Islamic Parliament Dr. Larijani,
Following your Excellency's speech during the meeting of the parliament yesterday in which elected government officials [lawyers] chanted slogans and rather than legislating, proceeded to demand the sentencing to death of the two individuals beloved by and faithful to the Imam [Khomeini], we received the news that an organized and paid group of thugs was proceeding towards our residence. The presence of police and security forces prevented them from appearing in the early hours of the evening. However, from 1:30 - 2:45am this organized group entered our neighborhood and proceeded to insult, swear at and affront my husband, Mr. Mousavi, Mr. Khatami, Mr. Hashemi and myself, while chanting slogans in support of the Supreme Leader and the ruling government. What is even more unfortunate is the fact that these thugs resorted to chanting religious slogans and reciting the "Fajr"** prayer like an angry mob. Shouldn't resorting to such primitive acts not witnessed for centuries in non-civilized societies alert the leaders of the ruling government to the truth that perhaps a group are on a mission to attack Islam and our religious beliefs? Nevertheless one question still lingers in my mind. Should this hardship and suffering also be extended to the honorable residents of our neighborhood? Indeed should our honorable neighbors not be protected from the wrath of a number of paid thugs threatening their safety in the middle of the night? Mr. Karroubi, who stood firm during the days when we fought for our revolution and was referred to as a good friend and a soldier of Islam by the Imam [Khomeini] has repeatedly stated that he is ready and willing to stand trial in any court of law and that he is prepared to pay any price to reform the devastation the regime is experiencing today. It is wrong to retest those who have already been tested.
Mr. Larijani, you are fully aware that since Thursday, security forces have forced us into complete house arrest and [they] will not even allow our children to visit with us. Our phones have all been disconnected. In addition to being deprived of this fundamental and basic right, while the thugs were outside our house, security forces raided the apartment of our son Mohammad Hossein, breaking down the entrance despite the fact that no one was at home. Given that your talk about abiding by the law, I have found it necessary to create public awareness with regards to the recent events, inform you of the facts and inquire about the legal precedence for this type of desperate, inhumane and of course childish behavior that by no means will deter the will of my husband.
