Monday August 30th, 2010 – In an interview with Deutsche Welle, Hossein Karroubi, Mehdi Karroubi’s son stated that tens of plains clothes agents have surrounded the residence of Mehdi Karroubi for the past two nights, chanting slogans and threatening to prevent him from attending the Qhods day protests.
In a phone interview that took place at midnight on Monday August 30th, Deutsche Welle asked Hossein Karroubi about the presence of plain clothes agents outside his father’s residence. The content of the interview is as follows:
Mr. Karroubi, it has been reported that the residence of your father, Mr Karroubi, is currently (midnight Tehran time) surrounded by plain clothes agents. Please describe what is going on, who these individuals are and whether they are armed or not.
The individuals who had gathered outside the building left approximately 10 minutes ago. I was at home about an hour ago and couldn’t enter the house. They insulted us, chanted slogans in favor of the leadership and promised to come back on Friday morning with 10 times as many people in order to prevent Mr. Karroubi from attending the Qhods day demonstrations.
Do you believe that this incident following the incident last night was designed to prevent Mr. Karroubi from attending the Ghadr ceremonies?
I believe their goal is to prevent him from attending the ceremonies of the nights of Ahya and also more importantly to prevent him from attending the demonstrations on Qhods day.
Were you able to enter Mr. Karroubi’s residence?
Yes. Mr. Karroubi is doing well and he is in very good spirits. I am here with him together with my mother and my brothers.
Who were the individuals who gathered outside your father’s residence today? Were they recognizable?
They were plain clothes agents supported 100% by the ruling government. They were armed. To quote Mr. Karroubi they wear overcoats and hang all kinds of weapons under them. They are 100% under orders from the Sepah (IRGC).
Mr. Karroubi had spoken about being present at the Qhods Day demonstrations. Does he still intend to attend?
Mr. Karroubi continues to stand behind his promise. He had a meeting with Mr. Mousavi today at Mr. Mousavi’s house and they plan to invite people to attend the Qhods Day demonstrations.
