Thursday October 28th, 2010 - A number of individuals dressed in basiji clothes were present at “Moje Ghanoon’s” booth, asking attendees to sign a booklet requesting that the leaders of the sedition be put on trial. The booklet also contained a sketch entitled “The People’s Court”, depicting Mousavi and Karroubi sitting behind a desk in a court of law.

The 17th International Press and Media Exhibition is currently taking place in Tehran and the supporters of the Islamic Republic of Iran have converted the exhibition into a locale advertising attacks against Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi the protesting candidates of last year’s presidential elections.

According to informed sources in Tehran, “Al-Arabiya Net” the walls of the booth for “Moje Ghanoon” a conservative network news outlet were filled with posters and writings requesting that the leaders of the so called sedition, Mousavi and Karroubi be put on trial.

After the rigged presidential elections last year, in which Ahmadinejad was proclaimed president, a wave of protests took place in Tehran and other provinces. Iranian conservatives, including the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, referred to protests that occurred after the elections as a “sedition” and labeled Mir Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi and Mohammad Khatami former president as the heads of the so called sedition.

According to informed sources, individuals dressed in basiji clothes were present at “Moje Ghanoon’s” booth, asking attendees to sign a booklet requesting that the leaders of the sedition be put on trial. The booklet also contained a sketch entitled “The People’s Court”, depicting Mousavi and Karoubi sitting behind a desk in a court of law.

These events took place at a time when Mousavi and Karroubi have both been under exceedingly more pressure by security forces and supporters of the current government. All comings and goings to their residence are highly controlled and many visitors are prevented from entering their homes. During the holy month of Ramadan, Mehdi Karroubi’s house was also attacked by basiji and plain clothes agents.

It is also worth mentioning that Abbas Jafari Dowlat Abadi, Tehran’s Prosecutor had threatened Mousavi and Karroubi that a case file had been prepared against them and that a trial was in the works. Mohseni Eje’i Iran’s Attorney General and Heidar Moslehi Intelligence Minister had also made similar comments.

In another part of the exhibition, at the booth for “Youth Online” (Javan Online) known for their connection with the IRGC, images of last years unrest were on display, including pictures of Mehdi Karroubi being attacked by government supporters. Karroubi who participated in many of last years protests was repeatedly attacked by government supporters.

It should be noted that many of the media outlets, including conservative media outlets were not present at this year’s exhibition. In a press conference held earlier this week, Mohammad Ali Ramin Depty Press Minister For Iran’s Culture & Islamic Guidance stated: “This year’s exhibition will not include pretentious and deceitful western media outlets. Instead we will be inviting a variety of media outlets from across the world that work in favor of all nations.”
