President Hassan Rouhani said that Iranian religious minorities played a pivotal role during the 1979 Islamic Revolution as well as the eight years of Iraqˈs imposed war against the country (1980-1988).

President Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with families of an Iranian Christian wartime martyr and another Christian war veteran who had made great sacrifices during the eight years of imposed war against Iran.
The meeting was held on the occasion of Christmas to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ (PBUH).
Congratulating the occasion, the President referred to Jesus Christ (PBUH) as ˈthe messenger of compassion and benevolence.ˈ
ˈIran belongs to all Iranians including Muslims, Christians and other religious minorities,ˈ President Rouhani said stressing that every Iranian citizen should make ultimate efforts to help progress of the nation.
